Services resume at Bir Hospital;one of the biggest and oldest Hospital

The two week protest of agitating resident doctors at the Bir Hospital ended on Thursday after a 12-point agreement was made between the government and resident doctors.

The resident doctors who began protests were later joined by registrar and consultant doctors stating that they were unable to work in the present conditions.

The situation in the state’s oldest hospital turned worse after registrar Bishworaj Joshi tendered his resignation while director Dirgha Raj RC was given marching orders by the government.

One more point was added in the earlier 11-point agreement to form a team to inspect whether the agreement is properly implemented or not.

Some 200 resident doctors of the hospital began the protest with a 20-point demand, which included a provision for their free treatment, modern medical equipment and cabins, among others.

The doctors on Thursday held talks with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal who is also the Chancellor of the National Academy of Medical Sciences under the Bir Hospital but in vain. The PM sought another round of talks to finalise the demands of the doctors.
